Administration & ict
NATIONAL 3 ADMINISTRATION AND ICT
The skills learned in Administration transfer directly to the world of work and National 3 Administration not only prepares our learners to enter the office environment at a beginner’s level, but also gives them a taste of how their skills will be applied in the world of work.
The course covers three main units that are taught using a mix of teacher led lessons and department developed self-study booklets that can be used by the young people independently and with the support of non-subject specific teachers and PSA’s. This means that this course can be offered to our Woodmill Community out with the department within both our DAS and WES departments.
Candidates will learn basic functions of word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to create and edit documents used in the workplace. They will use the internet to find information and then use the basic functions of desktop publishing, presentation, and e-mail for communicating a limited amount of information. Most excitingly for the Administration in Action assessment, our young people will be given the opportunity to use a range of skills to carry out a series of simple administration and IT-related tasks to provide administrative support for an event. Successful completion of this task will ultimately result in the course award.
NATIONAL 4 ADMINISTRATION AND ICT
Designed to build onto the fundamentals of National 3 Admin, this course is also accessible to those candidates who wish to pick up a workplace skill that has a direct transfer into employment.
The young people will cover three main areas, which will give them the skills and experience to offer administrative support in any areas of the workplace from GP surgeries to Engineer's Offices and Hairdressing Salons.
Administrative Practices will teach learners about key legislation affecting employees, key features of good customer care and the skills, qualities and attributes required of administrators. IT Solutions for Administrators develops learners’ basic skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases, and then Communication in Administration enables pupils to use IT for gathering and sharing simple information with others.
National 4 Administration also offers the young people an experience using and applying their practical administration and IT-skills to organise and support a small-scale event or events. This will form the basis of the course assessment.
